OUr Story
How Woods and Bricks Began
The studio emerged from a series of residential projects in Accra, Ghana, between 2017 and 2019, projects that explored how spaces could be designed to feel calm, considered, and timeless rather than trend-driven. But those early projects also revealed a persistent problem: beautiful design concepts rarely survived the journey from drawing to reality.
Contractors who didn't understand spatial intentions. Materials substituted without consultation. Details lost in translation between designer and builder. The gap between vision and execution was destroying good work.
Woods and Bricks was created to close that gap not by compromising design, but by integrating it with execution. A studio where the design team that conceives a space also oversees its realization, ensuring every detail, material choice, and spatial decision translates exactly as intended.
In 2018, this approach was formalised as Woods and Bricks. By 2022, the studio had expanded to India, establishing its base in Mumbai and Lucknow with projects across Maharashtra and Gujarat. The work grew to include residential estates, commercial environments, and international commissions, but the design philosophy remained consistent: spaces that prioritize clarity, craft, and longevity over spectacle.
Today, Woods and Bricks operates as a design-led studio that handles execution in-house not because we're builders who design, but because we're designers who refuse to watch our work get diluted during construction.
The studio's aesthetic is rooted in calm luxury: natural materials, thoughtful proportions, layered lighting, spaces that age gracefully rather than date quickly. And because design and build are integrated, what's drawn is what's delivered, no substitutions, no compromises, no gap between vision and reality.
Woods and Bricks works with clients who value design intelligence and expect their spaces to be executed with the same care they were conceived. We remain intentionally selective, focusing on projects where our approach, design-led, turnkey, and completely transparent can make the most impact.
The principle that started in Accra still guides everything: great design deserves flawless execution. That's not just philosophy, It's how every Woods and Bricks project is delivered.
THE FOUNDER

Woods and Bricks was founded by Karan Khanna, who developed the studio's design-led approach through a series of high-end residential and commercial projects in Accra, Ghana.
Rather than following a traditional design education path, Karan's design sensibility was shaped by direct project experience learning what works spatially, materially, and functionally by designing and overseeing execution across multiple projects. This hands-on foundation gave him a rare perspective: design decisions don't exist in theory, they succeed or fail during construction.
That insight led to Woods and Bricks' integrated model, a studio where design vision isn't handed off to contractors, but carried through to completion by the same team that conceived it.
Karan brings a business discipline (degrees in Business and International Business from Melbourne, Australia) to creative work, ensuring projects are delivered with clarity, transparency, and complete follow-through without sacrificing design quality.
Based in Lucknow with projects across Mumbai and internationally, Karan personally oversees all design work and project execution, maintaining the studio's standard: beautiful spaces, flawlessly executed.

"Woods and Bricks represents design integrity spaces that look and feel exactly as they were envisioned, because we control the entire process. Our work isn't trend-driven or loud. It's calm, considered, and built to last. We design for how you actually live, not for how a space photographs. And because we handle execution in-house, what we draw is what you get, no dilution, no substitutions, no compromises"
